Does your granny flat, carport or garage in Lismore contain asbestos? Not sure? At Accredited Asbestos Removers, we provide small-scale demolition services for small structures containing a dangerous amount of asbestos.
The two types of asbestos is friable and non-friable. Friable asbestos, when dry, can be pulverised, crumbled or reduced to a powder in the hand, making it the more dangerous of the two. Non-friable asbestos, when dry, cannot be pulverised, crumbled or reduced to a powder in the hand. It is typically mixed with cement or other bonding materials, which is why it’s also known as bonded asbestos.
If you find and accidently break asbestos, the best course of action is to wipe up all dust with a damp cloth, put the cloth in two plastic bags, tie them up and put them in your rubbish bin. If the material containing asbestos is cracked, it’s best to seal the crack with either paint or a PVA glue. If you are unsure of what to do or are concerned of the extent of the exposure, contact your local asbestos removalist.
A small-scale demolition is the demolishing of a small structure, typically something like a carport, garage, granny flat, etc. In the case of an asbestos demolition, if your small structure contains a high amount of asbestos—more than what’s considered safe—a small-scale demolition is required.
